Oversized Sweaters

I love the comeback of oversized sweaters , they are so comfy that you actually consider of sleeping in it as well. My outfit right now is basically my fall/winter uniform, big sweats, leggings and booties. When having a baby tagging along wherever I go, I have to stay as comfortable as possible. I don't wear as much heels as I used to. I somehow miss them at times, but  I have to dress with my lifestyle.

Reflection

Philippines . November 8, 2013 super typhoon Haiyan brought havoc and heart breaking catasthropic event in the islands of Leyte, Samar, Aklan, Antique, Capiz , Palawan and some parts of Cebu. I'm sure most of us already know on how many lives have been lost, the trauma and damages that   typhoon Haiyan have brought in this country . I will just spare you from the heart wrenching and gruesome pictures. I'm sure you had enough of it , since they are everywhere on TV, internet and popular social medias like facebook and twitter. It's been six days since the aftermath of typhoon Haiyan and within those days, it has brought me so much mixed emotions, awareness and reflection. With that, I will take a blog break for a week to mourn and show respect for the lives that has been lost and for the survivors that are in a very difficult unimaginable situation right now. In behalf of my fellow countrymen, I would  also like to say THANK YOU  to all the countries in the world for reaching out in helping the victims of typhoon Haiyan. God bless your hearts.

For those of you who would like to donate just go to this website PHILLIPPINE RED CROSS . God bless your hearts and thank you so much for your help.

Let us also pray for the lives that has been lost and the victims of this tragic event.

Thank you so much for reading

Pumpkin Spice

One of the best things about fall, aside from Halloween,Thanksgiving and pumpkin spice Starbucks coffee, is the light layering of outfits . Not too warm like summer and not too cold like winter, but comfortable enough to wear lightweight jackets and t-shirts underneath. Speaking of pumpkin spice coffee, it seems like my outfit goes well with that too.....very pumpkish  trousers matched with moss, black and brown combo , very nature inspired . I'm almost about  to take the Amazon jungle.

This outfit have so much going on with prints and contrasting textures, so I opted to wear just a little make up. Some light eye shadows, nude lips and I'm good to go. I seriously need my bangs trimmed though.

This trousers from Loft that I bought last year is the most comfortable ever and I love the pajama look prints as well too.

top : J.Crew (old)

Joy Ride to Frankenmuth

Last weekend , we went for a little getaway to Frankenmuth, MI. We always come here at least once a year. We stroll around at The River Place, It's like a mini German Village with little boutiques, bakeries and fudge stores. Aside from a wide array display of fudge , they  also show you a demo on how to make fudge ,unfortunately at that time nobody was doing it. It would have been cool for Lucas to witness that. Anyways, it was so cold that day that I can't wait to get inside the little shops and forgot about taking pictures, but I somehow manage to take a few snaps.

We stopped by and grabbed a popcorn at Popcorn Wagon . They have all kinds of flavor , it was really good and they are generous with their servings too. We bought a medium size just for a taste test but when the lady handed it to us, its like a large size, it could feed the whole family.

Enjoying their popcorn, so serious that they didn't even bother to look at me and say "cheese". They just want to eat that's it.

I remember Lucas used to be super obsessed with Smurfs when it first came out. He still loves them until now, but unlike before he talks about it a lot and watched their old shows on You Tube in every waking moment of his life. So when we bumped into these figures along the bricked streets of the River Place, he was so delighted  and got star struck  and couldn't contain himself not to take pictures with them.

Then we went to Bronners Christmas Wonderland , a place where Christmas is all year round. I LOVE that place, it makes me feel like a kid again. Those were the days  I believe, that there was a  "real" Santa Clause  and I even encountered  an argument with that on one of my classmates during my elementary days that Santa was real. My dad was so good in make beliefs or maybe I was just a gullible kid or  maybe..... I was just being a kid, enjoying my carefree childhood moments. Anyhow, Lucas loves the place as well, who doesn't right ?

They have all kinds of display, EVERYTHING about Christmas is here! From Christmas trees, ornaments, villages, lights, figurines , plates , utensils etc. etc. They also do personalized stuffs on ornaments and stockings. We always buy our personalized ornaments here. You buy the items, they personalized it for free and since this is Olivia's first Christmas,  we bought her first stockings and of course we let  Lucas picked them and yes, pink it is for Olivia. We bought as well a ginger bread family ornament with our names on each ginger bread man. I would say this is our first Christmas family portrait this year with Olivia...... well, in a gingerbread Christmas ornament. For sure, we will have more family portraits this coming Holidays but I'm pretty much delighted with these little munchkins. They are so cute don't you think ?

Now who doesn't go to Frankenmuth without dinning at Zehnder's Restaurant. They are so popular with their Chicken Dinners. We ordered family style, if you are out of chicken or any sides, you can always ask for more, be sure to come  hungry .Maybe make a reservation because the line is endless, all the way to the streets, not kidding. I've been here quite sometimes and this was the first time that there was no line at all, they took us right in. By the time you are inside the restaurant, enjoy German fine dining ambiance with their servers wearing attires that goes with the theme and ambiance of the restaurant, brilliant. Chicken dinners is $20 per person.

oh my Leonardo!

So this is our humble mini weekend getaway. It doesn't matter where you go and what you do as long as you enjoy each others company and cherish each little moments. So this are just one of my family's  precious moments for keeps and I'm always looking forward for more to come. I hope you enjoy my first post on my Lifestyle page.

Have a great weekend everyone !

Olivia's Ootd

Hi everyone ! This is my daughter Olivia , if you have been following my blog you already know this is my 2nd child. My first child is a boy, his name is Lucas. Here is a previous post so you can see both of my kids > here . I'm doing a segment of both of my kids "outfit of the day " but first lets start off with Olivia. You probably might see her more often than Lucas, because he is going to school already. We usually do our photo shoots while he is at school or sometimes weekends if we get a chance because by the time he gets off school, I will be extremely busy taking care and spending time to both kids, dinner , homework, bath time and bed time. The routine.

Anyhow, Olivia is 9 months old. She is walking already. I'm so proud of her for being such an early walker. She started walking when she was 8 months and she is getting better and better everyday. It's a lot of work for me now too, since she just wants to walk all the time. She don't want to be carried around anymore, only last  for a few minutes and she want to be put down . So I have to keep my eye on her every time she walks because they could get a little careless on things.

She loves to talk as well , her first word is "mama". Just recently she started to say "dada"
She could blab all day

Have a good day everyone! I hope you enjoyed Olivia's pictures

How to Make French Macarons

My quest in conquering French macarons cookies was quite a rocky road journey. I did 3 tries to finally get that delicate and precise French pastry. So what inspires me to make French macarons? Once upon a time, It was Paris Fashion Week most of my favorite style bloggers are in Paris. Aside from the latest  fashion runway instagram photos , there was also an array of beautiful French macarons on my intagram feeds from these style bloggers. I was curious and intrigued on what this little delightful darlings taste like. So I did my research, next thing I know. I bust out my mixer. After that I made batch by batch by batch. So enough on my ramblings and lets proceed on my tutorial.

Ingredients for macaron shells :

1 cup confectioners' sugar

  • 3/4 cup almond flour

  • 2 large egg whites, room temperature

  • Pinch of cream of tartar

  • 1/4 cup superfine sugar

  • Directions:

Sift confectioners' sugar and almond flour until combined.

Whisk whites with a mixer on low speed until foamy.

Add sugar while Increasing speed to medium and whisk until soft peaks form. Add food coloring and Increase speed to high, and whisk until stiff peaks form.

Slowly add the egg whites mixture into the flour and powdered sugar mixture and fold until mixture is incorporated.

It should be this thick of a mixture , you don't want it to overmixed or undermixed or else it will not turn out right. An overmixed mixture will result on cracked macarons. So it has to be on the right consistency, when you hold your spatula up, it should take atleast 5 seconds before it drips. This is the macronage part, the crucial part in making macarons, so you got to be very careful.

Transfer batter to a pastry bag fitted with a 1/2-inch plain round tip, and pipe 3/4-inch rounds 1 inch apart on parchment-lined baking sheets, dragging pastry tip to the side of rounds rather than forming peaks. Tap bottom of each sheet on work surface to release trapped air. Let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.

Bake 1 sheet at a time, rotating halfway through, until macarons are crisp and firm, about 15 minutes. Let macarons cool on sheets for 2 to 3 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Sandwich 2 same-size macarons with 1 teaspoon filling of your choice (buttercream, jam, etc). Serve immediately, or stack between layers of parchment, wrap in plastic, and freeze for up to 3 months.

Vanilla Buttercream filling recipe with Pistachio
    • 1 Vanilla Bean
    • 1cup Granulated Sugar
    • 3 Egg Whites
    • 1pinch Cream of Tartar
    • 1/4teaspoon Fine Sea Salt
    • 2 Sticks, cold unsalted butter, cubed
    • 1tablespoon Vanilla Extract
    1. Split vanilla pod lengthwise, and using back of paring knife, scrape the beans into granulated sugar (making a vanilla sugar).
    2. Whip the egg whites and cream of tartar to soft peaks. Bring the vanilla pod, vanilla sugar and 1/4 cup (57 grams) water to a boil in a small saucepan, and cook syrup to 238°F (115°C). Carefully remove the vanilla pod then gradually pour the syrup down the side of the bowl, cool on medium speed about 8 minutes.
    3. Add in the salt, butter and whip on high speed until fluffy and emulsified, about 10 minutes. Add vanilla extract. Note: for the macarons in the photo, I folded in finely crushed pistachio for added color and flavor
    4. Now your buttercream is ready to go! Fill a piping bag (or a zippered plastic bag with one corner snipped off) and pipe your filling onto half of the finished macaron halves, then top with the other halves to make sandwiches
Thank you so much for reading, have a great day and I hope you enjoy making French Macarons.

    Navy Blue

One of the fashion trends that I love for A/W 2013 is navy blue and cobalt blue. I saw them everywhere on runways and fashion magazines. For some reason, I'm starting to fall in love with this hue and I'm probably going to wear them more often this season.I'm not really a "blue" person, I'm leaning more towards feminine and lighter shades of color. This royalty color is too bold and too strong for my taste. But in fashion, there are no boundaries, you can always experiment , try new things and step out of your comfort zone.

In this outfit, I love to add a masculine touch of this feminine laser cut skirt. This sweater that I bought from Phillip Lim for Target does its job well on that. It is perfect for this kind of weather, It fits good and it is very comfortable. I love how it drapes perfectly when paired with  the skirt. It looks effortless and yet well put together. What do you think ?

Did you notice my little cutie patootie? Yes, I will be featuring her outfits, as well as my son too. They are in my new page in the blog at Kiddie Corner, there I will be featuring their "ootd". So I hope you will have fun with my little munchkins.

Thank you and have a great day everyone!
